How We Hire

The question every family deserves an answer to: who exactly is coming into my home? Here is every step — nothing hidden, nothing skipped.

Our Screening Process

Every caregiver earns their way in. No exceptions.

We are selective by design. Most people who apply do not become At Peace caregivers. Here is why — and why that protects your family.

1
Application & Interview

Thorough written application and personal interview

Every applicant completes a detailed written application covering experience, availability, and motivations. Qualified candidates complete a personal interview with our director — who, as a licensed professional counselor, brings clinical insight to evaluating character, communication, and fit.

2
Criminal Background Check

Comprehensive criminal background screening

All caregivers undergo a thorough criminal background check as required under Texas HCSSA regulations. This includes national and state-level records. Any disqualifying history results in automatic ineligibility — no exceptions, no appeals.

3
Registry Verification

Texas abuse & neglect registry checks

We verify all applicants against the Texas Health and Human Services abuse, neglect, and exploitation registries. Any match disqualifies an applicant immediately. This step is mandatory under state law and non-negotiable at At Peace.

4
Reference Checks

Personal and professional reference verification

We contact and verify references for every hired caregiver — speaking directly with prior employers, supervisors, or professional contacts. References are not a formality at At Peace; they are a substantive screening step.

5
Clinician-Led Training

Orientation and training — led by our LPC founder

Every hired caregiver completes orientation covering: HIPAA and client privacy, Client Bill of Rights, ANE mandatory reporting, emergency preparedness and hurricane protocols, CPR/First Aid certification, EVV system (AxisCare), medication reminder boundaries, and — most importantly — clinician-led training in the behavioral health conditions they will encounter: dementia, Alzheimer's, autism spectrum, depression, anxiety, PTSD, traumatic brain injury, and others.

6
Supervised Onboarding

Structured first-30-days supervision

New caregivers are never left to figure it out alone. Our structured supervision program ensures quality from the very first shift.
